PHNOM PENH - 27-28-29 DEC 2008

It is Christmas day and I have a great gift for myself.. a travel to Cambodia and Laos.
Just after the Christmas lunch to my parents I ran at home to pick my backpack up to go to the airport.. Daniela was already there, his dad gave her a lift.
The Plane, Qatar airways flight” was on time and we arrived around 19.00 at the Bangkok airport.
A couple of my friends were there to waiting us. They were so kind to come to pick us up and give us a ride to our hotel (sawasdee khaosan inn). After that all of us went to have a dinner together.
We have a delicious Thai food but what was better it was the chance to meet my friends Victor and Fon. I know both of them for quite long time, but just via internet and I was so happy to meet them by person.
The next day we got the time to a very fast tour of Bangkok.. So we went to visit some wat around our hotel and at 16.00 we took the bus to the airport to go to Cambodia.
Waiting for the flight we met Angelo, a guy who was travelling solo and was going to Phnom Penh too. So when we arrived to Phnom Penh we shared the taxi to reach the city and then we went to dinner together.
We found a hotel in the centre of the city (river star hotel).
What beats me was the traffic and how it was possible that numbers of cars, bikes and bicycles could go around in the same moment and also the number of the young people you could see around, later we found out that the 40% of the people in Cambodia are under 15 years old.
We Spent 2 full days in Phnom Penh and we tried to see the most possible.. the Royal palace and the silver pagoda, the genocide museum TUOL SLENG and then the killing field CHOEUNG EK (you have to go there and feel the dark feeling and the angst you breath inside those places, we have NO FORGET how evil the man can be), the Wat Phom, the colourful and chaos of the Russian market “psar tuol tom pong” and the centre market “psar thmei”, the National Museum and then others wat as the Ounalom and the Moha Montrei.
Anyway we didn’t forget to enjoy more our staying with some great massages to the “seeing hands massage” and having great dinner in company with our new friend Angelo. We had delicious food as the Amok, national Cambodian dish, fish cooked with curry and coconut, fish with palm sugar, grapefruits salad, lok lak and crab with black pepper.. All of them very very good!
What I feel to suggest as restaurant is Friends. This is a no profit restaurant where young people, take from the street, have the chance to learn how to cook typical Cambodian food and how to serve them in a restaurant all this under the control of their teacher. All the income are use to finance all their activities. More information www.streetfriends.org
